Just as Richard created the world’s finest collection of scanned mineral images, he has also created the world’s finest collection of microscope mineral images produced with an artistic rather than a scientific purpose.

As his microscope delivers a magnification upto 200 times actual size, it means we needed a mineral sample less than 1 millimetre wide to create this scarf.

That also means that human eyes have never seen this image before now, despite the agate itself being millions of years old.
