it is one of the many Richard Weston strizzatte images using a technique originated by Renaissance painters - but here reminding us of the outfits of participants in Brazilian carnival parades.

The image has been created by squeezing (that's what strizzatte means in Italian) acrylic paints between glass sheets, then scanning them at high resolution, so that what you are seeing is a tiny fraction of paints.
